Our apartments sit at the northern end of Jumeirah 1, between the La Mer beachfront and the edge of Al Satwa. It is one of Dubai’s older neighbourhoods, with walled villas, mosques and small shopping centres along Jumeirah Beach Road, and most buildings are low-rise. The pace is slower than among the towers, and the sea is never far.
Eating & going out
La Mer has casual beachfront restaurants and cafés, and the former La Mer South is now J1 Beach, a strip of beach clubs and restaurants. Inland, Al Satwa is known for no-frills cafeterias, juice counters and late-night shawarma, and City Walk’s cafés and concept stores are five to ten minutes away by taxi.
Getting around
Jumeirah has no metro of its own: World Trade Centre and Max stations on the Red Line are about ten minutes by taxi from most homes. Taxis are easy to find along Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road. Downtown is around ten minutes away, DXB about 20 and Dubai Marina roughly 25.
