    Life in Jebel Ali

    Living here

Most homes are in Downtown Jebel Ali, a district of mid-rise towers beside the last stations of the Red Line, with others in Dubai Waterfront, a short drive further south-west, and a handful of villas. Studios and one-bedrooms are compact and practical. This is a working neighbourhood rather than a resort, and once the commuters have gone home the evenings are calm.

    Eating & going out

Ibn Battuta Mall is the local centre: its six courts, themed on China, India, Persia, Egypt, Tunisia and Andalusia after the journeys of the 14th-century traveller, hold dozens of restaurants and cafés and a large cinema. For dinner by the sea, JA The Resort is a short drive along the coast, and the Marina’s waterfront terraces are about 15 minutes away.

    Getting around

Downtown Jebel Ali is served by the Red Line’s western branch, and Ibn Battuta station connects to the mall by a covered walkway, so the Marina and Mall of the Emirates are easy without a car. Dubai Waterfront is better reached by taxi. Al Maktoum International (DWC) is about 20 minutes by road, DXB around 45, and Abu Dhabi roughly an hour.
