Does Airbnb accept crypto in Dubai? The answer and 3 alternatives
Airbnb is many travellers’ first stop for a Dubai apartment, but it does not take Bitcoin or USDT. Here is what Airbnb’s own help pages say, and three practical alternatives if you want to pay for your stay in crypto.
The short answer
No. Airbnb’s list of accepted payment methods covers cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and some local options, but no cryptocurrency (checked on 27 October 2026), and the methods offered depend on your country, not on where the home is. To pay for a Dubai stay in crypto, book a licensed holiday home that accepts crypto directly, use a crypto travel agency for hotels, or pay with a crypto card.
Disclosure: DubaiCrypt is one of the alternatives described below. We have limited what we say about Airbnb and other services to what their own pages and reputable sources state, and every source is listed at the end of this guide.
Airbnb and crypto: the facts (checked on 27 October 2026)
| Question | Answer | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Does Airbnb accept crypto? | No. No cryptocurrency appears in its list of accepted payment methods | Airbnb Help Center: Payment methods accepted |
| What can you pay with in most countries? | Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB and debit cards that can be processed as credit cards, plus Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal | Same page |
| Are there local options? | Yes, by country, such as Pix in Brazil, UPI in India and iDEAL in the Netherlands. The methods shown depend on your country or region | Same page |
| Can you pay the host directly, in crypto or otherwise? | No. Guests and hosts may not ask or encourage each other to send or receive payments outside Airbnb | Airbnb Help Center: Pricing and payment transparency |
| Has Airbnb announced crypto payments? | Not that we could find. In 2023 its treasurer said the costs of accepting, holding and paying out crypto “still run high” compared with the other currencies it manages | NeuGroup interview, June 2023 |
In short, the payment method is set by Airbnb and by the country of the person paying, not by the city of the listing. A Dubai apartment on Airbnb is paid for in exactly the same way as an apartment in Lisbon or London.
Why it matters for a Dubai trip
If your travel budget sits in crypto, a card-only platform means converting first: selling on an exchange, withdrawing to a bank account and paying by card, with a spread or a fee at each step. That is the main reason crypto holders look for alternatives.
The second reason is less obvious and more important. Dubai’s holiday-home market is regulated: according to Gulf News, anyone renting out a property short term needs a holiday home permit from Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) before welcoming guests. When a “host” offers to skip the platform and take crypto directly, you lose the platform’s protection and usually have no way to check the permit.
Crypto also raises the cost of a mistake. A card payment can be disputed; a crypto transfer cannot be reversed by the sender. As bitcoin.org explains, a Bitcoin transaction “can only be refunded by the person receiving the funds”. Who you pay, and through which system, is the decision that matters most.
Alternative 1: book a licensed holiday home that accepts crypto
The most direct route is a holiday-home platform that takes crypto itself. DubaiCrypt, the site you are reading, offers more than 1,000 holiday homes across Dubai, all managed by its own team, priced in US dollars and paid in crypto directly at checkout. It works like this:
- Choose your dates and select Reserve on the home you want.
- On the “Confirm and pay” page, log in or create a DubaiCrypt account; it takes about 30 seconds.
- Choose your cryptocurrency and pay the exact total directly at checkout: USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20), BTC or ETH. The payment screen shows the amount, the address and a QR code.
- The crypto amount is calculated at the live rate and locked while you pay, and your dates are held. USDT on TRC-20 usually confirms in about a minute, ETH in one to three minutes and BTC in 10 to 30 minutes.
- The booking is confirmed instantly as soon as the payment is confirmed on the blockchain, with a voucher and a receipt in US dollars in your account.
If you send less than the total, the payment screen shows the remaining amount to send to the same address; if you send too much, contact the concierge with your payment reference. You can cancel in one click from Trips in your account, and refunds go instantly to your DubaiCrypt balance, in US dollars: in full up to 7 days before check-in, 50% up to 48 hours before. The balance can be used to pay a future booking at checkout, and unused balance can be paid back in crypto on request through the concierge, which is available 24/7. Whichever crypto-friendly platform you use, make sure the home holds a DET permit. Our guide to Dubai holiday home rules explains what guests should look for.
Alternative 2: a crypto travel agency for hotels
If you prefer a hotel, crypto-focused travel agencies sell rooms you can pay for in crypto. Travala is the best-known example: on 27 October 2026 its website said you can pay “using 100+ cryptocurrencies or traditional payments” for more than 2,200,000 hotels worldwide, and its Dubai page listed over 10,000 hotels. It also sells flights, tours and car rental.
Points to check with any travel agency before you pay:
- How refunds are paid: in the original coin, in another currency or as platform credit. Read the terms first.
- Which coins and networks are accepted for your booking, and how long the quoted crypto amount is held.
- What is payable at the property on arrival, such as local fees, taxes or a deposit.
- Whether you are booking a hotel room or a holiday home: these agencies focus mainly on hotels.
Alternative 3: pay with a crypto card
A crypto card is a debit or prepaid card linked to a crypto account. When you pay, the provider sells the crypto and the merchant receives ordinary money, so the transaction looks like any other card payment. In principle, that lets you book anywhere that accepts cards, including Airbnb. Airbnb’s list refers to “debit cards that can be processed as credit cards”, however, so whether a particular card works depends on how it is processed.
Before relying on one, check:
- Availability: crypto cards are issued by regulated providers and are usually limited to residents of certain countries.
- Costs: the conversion spread, any foreign-exchange fee if the card’s currency differs from the price, and any monthly or top-up fees.
- Limits: daily or monthly spending caps, which matter for a large booking.
- Your home country’s rules: converting crypto can have tax consequences, so ask an adviser where you live.
A crypto card is the most flexible option, but strictly speaking you are paying in ordinary money: the conversion happens before the merchant is paid, at the card provider’s rate.
Risks to avoid
- Paying a stranger’s wallet outside a platform. Airbnb’s rules forbid off-platform payments, and its help centre warns that a request to pay outside Airbnb “may be fraudulent”. In crypto, a payment to the wrong person is usually gone for good.
- Unlicensed listings. Every holiday home in Dubai needs a DET permit; a listing that cannot show one is a warning sign.
- “Crypto discounts” for paying directly. A lower price for sending crypto to a host’s personal wallet is a classic set-up for fraud.
- Addresses sent by chat or email. Pay only to an address shown on the platform’s own payment page.
- Deposits demanded in crypto. On Airbnb, mandatory fees have to be paid through Airbnb, so a host asking for a crypto deposit is breaking its rules.
- Wrong-network transfers. Match the coin and the network exactly; see what to do after a wrong-network payment.
If someone you met on a booking site asks you to move to a messaging app and pay in USDT, stop and report it to the platform.

No. Airbnb’s list of accepted payment methods, checked on 27 October 2026, includes cards, digital wallets, PayPal and local methods, but no cryptocurrency.
Will Airbnb accept crypto soon?
We found no announcement. In 2023 Airbnb’s treasurer said the costs of accepting, holding and paying out crypto still ran high. Treat any claim of Airbnb crypto payments as unverified unless it appears on Airbnb’s own help pages.
Can an Airbnb host ask me to pay a deposit in crypto?

Possibly, if Airbnb accepts the card as a debit card processed as credit. The crypto is converted before Airbnb is paid, so check the card’s conversion and foreign-exchange costs.

What is the safest way to pay for a Dubai holiday home in crypto?
Use a platform that shows the full price before you pay, gives you a unique payment address on its own site and issues a receipt. On DubaiCrypt, the total in US dollars is shown before you pay, the crypto amount is locked at the live rate while you pay, and the booking is confirmed instantly with a voucher and a receipt in your account.
Which cryptocurrencies does DubaiCrypt accept?
You pay the total directly at checkout, with 4 options: USDT on Tron (TRC-20), USDT on Ethereum (ERC-20), Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH). Not sure which USDT network to choose? Read USDT TRC-20 vs ERC-20.
