Dubai with kids: where to stay and how to get around

Dubai is one of the easiest cities to visit with children: short distances, clean beaches and plenty to do indoors when it is hot. The trick is choosing the right base, the right months and the right way to get around.

The short answer

Dubai is one of the easiest cities to visit with children, especially from November to March, when average highs are 24–31 °C. Stay on the beach (Palm Jumeirah, JBR) or in a villa community (Dubai Hills, Dubailand), book a home with three bedrooms or more rather than two hotel rooms, and rent a 7-seater with child seats: children under four must travel in one.

The best areas for families

Families usually choose between two kinds of base: a beach area, where you can walk to the sand, or a villa community, where you get a garden, more space and often a private pool but need a car. The table uses live figures from DubaiCrypt’s own listings (October 2026); prices are per night, in US dollars, with cleaning and service fees included.

Beach bases: Palm Jumeirah, JBR, Dubai Marina and Dubai Harbour

Palm Jumeirah has the most family-sized homes on DubaiCrypt (62 with three bedrooms or more), with 109 homes with beach access, 42 villas and 20 homes with a private pool. It is about 40 minutes from DXB by car, and the monorail runs along the trunk. JBR puts apartments directly on the beach, with The Walk’s restaurants and shops below and Dubai Marina five minutes away on foot. Dubai Marina has the best public transport of these areas (metro and tram on site), and the beach is a five-minute walk. Dubai Harbour is quieter, with residents’ beaches between the Palm and the Marina.

Villa communities: Dubai Hills, Dubailand and DAMAC Hills 2

If your children need space to run, a villa community is better value per bedroom. Dubai Hills is green and calm, five minutes from Dubai Hills Mall and about 15 minutes from Downtown. Dubailand is about ten minutes from Global Village and has 17 villas on DubaiCrypt. DAMAC Hills 2 is further out (about 45 minutes from DXB) but offers three-bedroom townhouses from $150 a night, which suits larger families and groups. In all three, plan on a car.

Central and convenient: Downtown Dubai

Downtown Dubai has no beach or villas, but Dubai Mall, the aquarium and the fountains are within walking distance and the metro is close by. It works well for a short first visit with older children; three-bedroom homes start at $211 a night.

Choose space over a hotel room

A three-bedroom apartment or a villa often costs less than two hotel rooms, and comes with a kitchen, a washing machine and a living room for everyone. Browse family homes with three bedrooms or more, or filter for villas and homes with a private pool.

  • Ask for a cot and a high chair in the message for our concierge when you book; many homes have them, but it depends on the home
  • Check whether the pool is private or shared, fenced or open, and whether it is heated in winter
  • Ask about balcony locks and window restrictors in high-rise apartments
  • Look for a washing machine: beach days produce a lot of laundry
  • Check the floor and the lift access if you travel with a pushchair

Top attractions by age

Many of Dubai’s big family attractions are indoors or have large indoor sections, which helps in the heat. Height and age rules vary from ride to ride, so check each attraction’s own website before you book tickets.

Babies and toddlers

  • Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo in Dubai Mall: the giant tank is visible from the mall itself
  • The Green Planet at City Walk: an indoor tropical rainforest with birds and animals
  • Morning beach time at JBR, Kite Beach or La Mer, before the sun gets strong
  • Global Village on a winter evening: children under three usually enter free
  • Public transport is easy with little ones: children aged five and under travel free on the metro, tram and buses, and on most RTA boats

Children aged about 4 to 10

  • LEGOLAND Dubai and LEGOLAND Water Park at Dubai Parks and Resorts: more than 40 rides and attractions, and more than 20 water slides (the water park is closed on Wednesdays until 25 November 2026)
  • KidZania in Dubai Mall: a child-sized city where children try out adult jobs
  • Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates: a real snow park with penguin encounters; minimum ages differ between activities
  • Water parks: Aquaventure on Palm Jumeirah and Wild Wadi in Jumeirah
  • Dubai Safari Park, which reopened for its new season on 12 October 2026

Tweens and teenagers

  • Motiongate Dubai, next to LEGOLAND, and IMG Worlds of Adventure, a large indoor theme park
  • Skiing or snowboarding lessons on the slope at Ski Dubai
  • Arrive-and-drive karting at Dubai Autodrome
  • A morning desert trip between November and March: dune driving, sandboarding and camel rides
  • Museum of the Future and the Dubai Frame for the views and the photos

Beaches for families

Dubai has plenty of free public beaches. Swim where lifeguards are on duty and follow the flags. Three public beaches are lit for swimming after dark, with lifeguards: Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1. They are a good way to enjoy the sea when the days are too hot.

If the beach is the priority, stay on it. On DubaiCrypt, 109 homes on Palm Jumeirah and 54 in JBR have beach access, and the beachfront homes collection shows them all. Sea temperatures range from about 22 °C in February to 33 °C in August, so in January and February some children find the sea cool; a home with a heated pool is worth asking about.

Heat and timing

The best months for a family trip are November to March, when average highs are 24–31 °C and children can play outside all day. From June to October, every day at Dubai airport’s weather station reaches 30 °C or more, and July and August average 42 °C. The UAE bans outdoor work in direct sun from 12:30 pm to 3 pm between 15 June and 15 September, which is a good guide for families too. Our guide to the best time to visit Dubai has the month-by-month weather.

  • Plan outdoor activities for the morning and late afternoon, and keep the middle of the day for the pool, a nap or an indoor attraction
  • Use high-factor sunscreen, hats and swim shirts, even in winter
  • Carry water everywhere and offer it often
  • Never leave a child in a parked car, even for a minute
  • Pack a light layer: air-conditioning in malls, cars and attractions is strong

Getting around with kids

UAE traffic rules require children under four to travel in a child safety seat, and children aged 10 or under, or shorter than 145 cm, may not sit in the front. The fine is AED 400. If you plan to use taxis with a baby or toddler, ask for a child seat when you book or bring your own.

  • Metro: every train has cabins reserved for women and children, and children aged five and under travel free
  • Taxis: the pink-roofed Families and Ladies taxis, driven by women, are open to all families
  • Palm Monorail: free for children under five or under 110 cm
  • Boats: children under five ride free on the traditional abra crossings, the water taxi and most Dubai Ferry routes

For most families, a car of your own is the easiest option, especially in a villa community. DubaiCrypt has 167 7-seaters from $27 a day, with room for everyone and the luggage, and 269 SUVs from $22 a day. Many rental companies can add child seats on request: mention your children’s ages in the message for our concierge when you book. Every car comes with no deposit, insurance and VAT included, and free delivery anywhere in Dubai, including the airport.

Good to know

Arriving late with tired children? Take a taxi from the airport and have the car delivered to your home the next morning: you can fit the child seats in daylight, at your own pace.
