Renting a supercar in Dubai: rules, costs and tips
Dubai is one of the easiest places in the world to rent a Lamborghini, a Ferrari or a McLaren for a day. Here is who can rent one, what it really costs, and the rules that turn a great day into an expensive one if you ignore them.
The short answer
To rent a supercar in Dubai you need to be at least 21, and often 25, with a licence from a GCC or RTA “exception” country or an International Driving Permit. On DubaiCrypt, supercars start at $314 a day with insurance and VAT included and no deposit. Speed and noise are strictly enforced: reckless driving can see the car impounded with a release fee of AED 50,000.
Who can rent a supercar
The rules are the same as for any rental car, with stricter age limits. Visitors on a visit visa can drive with a licence from a GCC country or one of the 20 exception countries listed by the RTA, which include the UK, the US and most of Western Europe; everyone else needs an International Driving Permit issued at home, together with the original licence. Residents need a UAE licence. Our guide to driving in Dubai as a tourist lists the countries.
- Minimum age: 21 is the legal minimum to rent a car in the UAE, but supercars often require 25 or more
- Driving experience: many companies ask for a licence held for several years, and at least 12 months is common for any rental
- Documents: passport with your visa or entry stamp, licence, and International Driving Permit if needed
- The driver named on the rental agreement must be present at delivery with the original documents
Each supercar on DubaiCrypt shows its own age and licence requirement on its page, and at checkout you confirm that the driver meets it.
What a supercar costs on DubaiCrypt
Prices on DubaiCrypt are daily rates in US dollars, with insurance and VAT included. These are the live starting prices by category in October 2026; the rate for a given car depends on the model, the season and the length of the rental.
| Category | Cars available | From, per day |
|---|---|---|
| Supercars | 81 | $314 |
| Sports cars | 86 | $57 |
| Convertibles | 178 | $55 |
| Luxury SUVs | 340 | $71 |
| Luxury cars | 733 | $51 |
Browse by brand: Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren and Rolls-Royce are among the most requested. If you mainly want the open-air experience, a convertible or a sports car gives you much of the fun for a fraction of the price.
What to compare besides the daily rate
- The daily kilometre allowance and the price of each extra kilometre, shown on every car
- The minimum rental period: some cars are rented for a minimum number of days
- What the insurance covers and the excess you would pay after damage
- Delivery: on DubaiCrypt it is free anywhere in Dubai, including your hotel, home or the airport
- The total for several days: longer rentals usually cost less per day
Deposits: the industry norm and DubaiCrypt
In Dubai, rental companies usually ask for a refundable security deposit, blocked on a credit card, to cover fines and tolls that arrive after the rental. Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism has told renters that a deposit should be held or blocked, not charged, and released within 30 days of returning the car if nothing is owed.
On DubaiCrypt, there is no deposit on any car, supercars included. Salik tolls and traffic fines are registered against the car’s plate and invoiced to you after the rental, at cost, with the official receipts.
Insurance and excess
Insurance is included in every price on DubaiCrypt. What matters on a supercar is the detail: the excess (the amount you pay towards a claim), what is excluded, and what happens to the excess if you are at fault. If anything is unclear, ask our 24/7 concierge before you book. Insurers and rental companies ask for a police report before they handle any damage, so if anything happens, report it to Dubai Police (999, or 901 for non-emergencies) and call the rental company before anything is repaired.
Mileage limits
Supercars come with a daily kilometre allowance, and every car on DubaiCrypt shows it with the price per extra kilometre. Plan your route against it: a return trip to Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah is about 320 km, and a return trip to Al Qudra about 150 km, so a mountain day can go beyond a single day’s allowance.
Speed cameras, fines and impounding
Dubai’s roads are covered by fixed and mobile cameras, and the fines reach the rental company automatically. Speed limits are posted on every road; on Sheikh Zayed Road the limit is 100 or 120 km/h depending on the section. The fines that matter most in a powerful car:
| Offence | Penalty |
|---|---|
| Speeding by more than 50 km/h | AED 1,000 |
| Speeding by more than 60 km/h | AED 2,000, 12 black points, 20-day impound |
| Speeding by more than 80 km/h | AED 3,000, 23 black points, 60-day impound |
| Running a red light | AED 1,000, 12 black points, 30-day impound |
| Excessive vehicle noise | AED 2,000, 12 black points |
| Unauthorised engine or chassis modification | AED 1,000, 12 black points, 30-day impound |
Dubai adds a release fee before an impounded car is returned. Under Decree No. 30 of 2023, it is AED 50,000 for driving recklessly or through a red light, AED 100,000 for taking part in a road race without a police permit, and AED 10,000 for stunts on public roads; the fee doubles for a repeat offence within a year, up to AED 200,000. Noise is a live enforcement issue: Dubai Police impounded 1,630 vehicles for excessive noise and illegal modifications in the first nine months of 2026.
Want to feel what the car can really do? Do it on a track. Dubai Autodrome runs car track days and instructor-led supercar driving experiences.
The best drives
- Jumeirah Beach Road at sunset: a slow coastal cruise past the beaches and villas of Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim, made for an open roof
- Palm Jumeirah: the trunk, the crescent and the tunnel out to Atlantis, with skyline views back to the Marina
- Al Qudra: about an hour (76 km) from the city into the desert, with long, quiet roads and lakes
- Hatta: about 90 minutes from Dubai Airport, into the Hajar mountains; Hatta Main Road is limited to 80 or 100 km/h depending on the section
- Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah: just under two hours (about 160 km) to a mountain road of hairpins and viewpoints
Before heading towards Hatta or the east coast, check your route and your rental terms: taking a rental car into Oman needs the rental company’s no-objection certificate and insurance that covers Oman, and many companies do not allow it.
Photoshoot etiquette
A supercar draws attention, and most renters want photos or a short video. A few rules keep it legal and pleasant for everyone.
- Do not photograph or film other people without their consent: under Article 44 of the UAE cybercrime law (Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021), it can bring at least six months in prison and a fine of AED 150,000 to 500,000
- Avoid showing other people’s number plates, homes or faces in what you post
- Personal photos need no permit, but commercial shoots (adverts, paid content) need a filming permit through the Dubai Film and TV Commission and the approval of whoever manages the location
- Drones are regulated by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority: recreational pilots must be registered with the DCAA and fly only in approved zones
- Never stop on a motorway or its hard shoulder for a photo: misusing the hard shoulder costs AED 1,000, 6 black points and a 30-day impound
- Hotels, malls and private developments can refuse photography on their property; ask security first
- Keep revving and launch starts for the track
